This web page was created as a FREE tool to help an individual prepare for the ARRT’s CT Certification Exam. The content of this page consists of questions, pertinent to the CT Exam, organized by sub-topic (see above). In conjunction with my schooling, training and other sources I also used The CT Registry Review Program – Fourth Edition, which is produced by a company called Medical Imaging Consultants, Inc. (MIC), as a reference for some of the questions in the question sets above and below. I strongly recommend the MIC Coursework for anyone seeking to obtain CT certification with the ARRT. You may contact MIC by calling 1-800-589-5685 or by going to their web site at http://www.micinfo.com/index.xml

How to use this page.

This page should be pretty much self explanatory. Just click on a sub-topic question set located above and begin going threw the questions. I find the question/answer format used here to be one of the best ways to study this type of information. you don’t waste any time flipping back and forth in a book and therefore get the most “Bang-for-your-Buck!” I hope these questions help you with your studies and good luck on your test!

Question Sets in Word Document Format

You can download the question sets that I have typed up in word document format below. These will be posted untill I can get the questions converted to the testing format found above

We need a good study guide for the registry- I suggest you keep your questions the the registry itself. Your typing in answers and 5/8 or3/5 questions are confusing. I look forward to more question entered. Thank you

Love the website! I am planning on taking the registry at the end of November and am always looking for a good study guide. I am currently working as a CT Tech. I used the MIC to study. Do you think this is enough to pass the registry? When are you expecting to have more questions up on your site?

Thanks

14. Jerry Davis RT (R)(CT) — August 17, 2009 @ 3:39 pm

This is my first time on your website and it appears to be a great asset. Do you plan on having someone provide information on how a MDCT unit works? i.e., detector arrangment, auto ma, importance of correct positioning. This type of basic information is not readily available.

15. Tracy — August 31, 2009 @ 12:37 pm

Would love to get more questions, I’m preparing to take the exam, and would love to have as much practice as I can!!!

Hey everyone. First off just let me say that I am sorry that this site has been dormant for so long! I began building a new home about a year and a half ago and, unfortunately, it has taken up all of my spare time. But, the project is finally nearing completion and I am once again going to try to start posting new study questions. Thanks for all of your patience!

39. Tony — November 13, 2009 @ 7:14 pm

Great job Jennifer..

40. Simone — November 16, 2009 @ 5:54 pm

Hello everyone,
I will be sitting my Ct registry in January, can you successful ct technologist recommend a good book to study from.

41. Calvin Sphuler — November 16, 2009 @ 6:27 pm

Josh…
Look in the right hand column under the heading “Sectional Anatomy”. You will find two links to a couple of great sectional anatomy sites; E-Anatomy.org and Anatomy Wiz!.

42. Calvin Sphuler — November 16, 2009 @ 6:37 pm

Simone – I believe that the most efficient way to prepare for the CT exam is to get a copy of MIC’s “CT Registry Review” and go through it. Then get a copy of a good sectional anatomy book like those listed in the CT Guru Store and go through that. After you feel comfortable with those two items use some of the CT registry review questions located on this site and you will be more than ready to pass the CT exam!

Hope this helps! :)

43. Stephanie — November 18, 2009 @ 3:43 pm

Nice website!!!! I have heard that MIC is one of the best ways to study for the test, I plan on ordering it myself. I have only been doing CT for 15 months, but I want to take the exam in august…..

69. Jeremy — March 1, 2010 @ 11:56 am

Hello! I have seen some folks ask for used MIC Review Guides. I am also looking for one, but has anyone been successful? If anyone has a recent edition please contact me at jkkflash@hotmail.com. Thanks!

70. Baby — March 6, 2010 @ 3:55 pm

I have MIC Reg. Review with the study guides included. Will attempt to take the registry at the end of this month and if I pass it, I will no longer need the MIC Reg. Review. I will let you know. Not sure what year it is. I’ve head it for few months. It has the 2002 copy right symbol on it. BTY I am not very impressed by it at all. Not sure that if you study just from this you will pass the ARRT registry.

71. Sarah — March 10, 2010 @ 11:19 am

If anyone wants to sell their study materials please email me. :)
and why is the MIC ct registry review more expensive than the cross trainer, and by $100!

72. Jennifer — March 17, 2010 @ 6:07 pm

Thanks for this great website!
I Will be taking the registry this friday, and i’m really freaking out!!! Does anybody have any suggestions on any other study questions???! I borrowed the MIC review from a friend and found them very difficult! Please let me know if you can help!! Thanks
jenben_04@yahoo.com

73. Denise — March 20, 2010 @ 7:24 pm

I love the website!!! Thanks Calvin. I wish everyone all the best on getting registered. I plan to take my boards in June. I have been reading Seeram CT where there is an online 165 question practice test at http://evolove.elsevier.com/seeram which goes along with the contents of the book. There is also links for additional resources. But, I really like the test question format of this site…the questions makes you think hard. I’m also waiting on the latest edition of DeMaio’s CT review due out late March 2010. Anyone can reserve a copy at Amazon now. I have 2 pocket atlas of cross section body and head/brain. I’m hoping with all that I should be able to pass. Do you think I need to study the MIC CT review matierial too? If so, is there anyone who has passed already and is looking to lend or sell theirs, please contact me denise.ruggiero@yahoo.com. Thanks Again

74. Sara — March 23, 2010 @ 5:17 pm

Plan on taking the registry April 12th. Could you send me any test questions to practice? Thanks so much. Been doing CT for 11 years. It’s amazing what we take for granted with our new technology. Good luck everyone in your studying.

75. Stephanie — March 25, 2010 @ 10:38 pm

I forgot to update… I passed my registry back in November. Wasn’t as bad as I had expected. The CT Registry Review book (purple one) and this website helped a lot.

76. Helen — March 26, 2010 @ 11:00 am

Love this sit!!I plan to take my boards on May. Will you please send me a set of questions. Please send akimehari@msn.com. Thanks

77. Justin — March 26, 2010 @ 11:28 am

Great Job Steph, I am taking mine soon. I am glad you thought it was a little easier than expected. Makes me feel better..I will update after I take the test! Great site!

78. Jeff Hartness — March 28, 2010 @ 7:49 am

I would like to start by saying your website is great. I only have a few suggestions for making it a little bit better. First use spell check! There are many words throughout your questions that are misspelled. There are also some questions that are incorrect. For example there is a question that asks which are the two most common modalities for fusion imaging? According to your web site the answer is PET and CT. PET is not a modality. Nuclear Medicine is a modality; therefore I chose Nuclear Medicine and CT, which is wrong according to your web page. I do believe this site is very helpful, just needs a few bugs worked out.

Very Respectfully
Jeffery Hartness R.T. (R), CNMT

79. alvin — March 29, 2010 @ 7:30 pm

I really wish that you would provide explanations on some of the answers especially if I get the answers wrong.

80. Justin — March 31, 2010 @ 12:39 pm

I passed my boards, had a scaled score of 85. Not to shabby.

81. Simone — March 31, 2010 @ 4:27 pm

Congrats Justin, i will be taking mine in May.

82. Heather — April 1, 2010 @ 9:09 am

Congrats Justin! That is great! Was it easier than you thought?

83. droptine — April 1, 2010 @ 12:11 pm

Can honestly say the demaio book helped the most, then my personal experience, and these questions. Dont sweat it if you dont know the answers to these.. Id say maybe 10% of the questions here helped me on the registry, and i recently aced it

84. Heather — April 1, 2010 @ 1:19 pm

Is the Demaio book everyone talking about the purple book with the copyright date of 1996? Thanks!

85. droptine — April 1, 2010 @ 2:42 pm

yup but he has a new one that just came out.. should be good but i used the old one

86. Baby — April 3, 2010 @ 4:15 am

Just passed the ARRT CT reg exam, scaled score of 91. Read the MIC CT Reg Review, the DeMayo book, and a huge binder I have with lost of hard practice test. It was easier than I thought as well. I have the MIC CT reg review with practice questions and study guides, plus the binder with the practice questions available. If anyone is interested, please post your e-mail here and I will contact you.

I found the questions here helpful, but as it was mentioned already, only about 10-20%.

Great web site!!!
Good luck to everyone!!!

87. Simone — April 3, 2010 @ 5:37 am

Congrats Baby!!!! I am interested in your hard practice test. I have the MIC and a co-worker gave me the purple Demaio book. My email is simoneae@yahoo.com. Congrats again.

Would that possible on this web site?

Guys do you know of other web sites where prospect registry takers post?

125. Sherri — April 20, 2010 @ 4:52 pm

Baby…I just recently took the CT registry and sorry to say that I failed. I used the MIC review (the latest version) and not too many questions on my exam came from that source. It was 185 questions and I’d say less than half came from MIC. Can you or anyone on this site please send me anything you have that might help me pass the second time?!?! I would be SOOO Thankful!!!! reklesssdc@aol.com

126. Baby — April 21, 2010 @ 1:53 pm

Sherri, sorry to hear that. As I had mentioned above, I did not feel at all that the MIC Reg. Review alone is enough. Get the DeMayo book and see above I had mentioned in another post which book I used for the cross sectional anatomy. It helped me a lot.
Practice tests are in your e-mail box! :)

Good luck Sherri, and keep your chin up, you can do it!!!

Does anyone know what the pass rate is for the CT exam 1st trial?

127. Sherri — April 21, 2010 @ 2:20 pm

Thanks Baby!! I appreciate any help I can get. I hope to re take the test in 6 weeks or so. I’ll post those results then. Keep your fingers crossed!! :)

I would be interested in more practice questions. If Baby or someone else could please forward me Baby’s practice test questions that would be great. Thank you in advance. radtek1999@hotmail.com

Denni, the Mosby’s Exam Review for Computed Tomography was just released on April 19th. I ordered it and I should have it soon. It is written by Daniel N. DeMaio who also wrote Registry Review in Computed Tomography (purple book). I hope this new CT book is in the same format as the Mosby’s Comprehensive Review of Radiography which I used to pass the Radiography boards years ago. It was a outline of all the Radiography subjects with practice questions following each section. I will let everyone know what I think about the Mosby’s CT Review book once I have received it and had a chance to look at it.

Congratulations Baby!!! I’m glad you passed the exam with your first try. I took the exam at the end of March, unfortunately I wasn’t the lucky one like most of you guys, but I thought I did everything I could to have myself ready for this exam but my score says different story. I used MIC, Daniel DeMaio book, questions that I downloaded from this website and some questions I found from different websites. Right now I’m kind of disappointed and won’t be happy until I pass this exam. I’m planning to re-take the exam within the next 6 weeks so can either you or Simone or anyone on this site please send me a copy of those questions that seems like everybody’s so interested in. That would be a great help for me to pass the second time. Thank you so much!! my e-mail is jack2000_2000_94602@yahoo.com, thanks again.

162. ruta — May 4, 2010 @ 9:23 pm

OK. I’m really starting freaking out about that test. I studied MIC, Baby’s tests and my DeMaio book is on the way. I also use Cross Sectional Anatomy for Proffesionals book. I guess my dilema is how in depth we should know the stuff. Some tests that Baby send are from Bushong’s book and I think he is way too deep in to the physics. Do we really need to know detectors geometric detection efficiency vs. intrinsic detection efficiency because MIC not even once mentioned it? I am afraid that I am waisting my time on the material that is not so important. Any advice how to study efficiently?
Also, if you are considering buying any book, DO NOT buy from Barnes and Noble online. I ordered newest edition of Demaio book Wednesday evening. The book was supose to be shipped on Friday. I checked my e-meil on Saturday, they said that it will be delayed. There is no way (or at least I did not finded) to cancel the order on line. The customer servise was closed. Finally I got around to call them on Monday. The book still was NOT shiped out, they even did not have it in stock anymore (they did when i ordered) and the dude on the other side said “the only thing what we can do
for you is to cancel your order” Are you kidding me???? I did cancel my order and bought book from Amazon.com. The price is the same, and my book is already on the way.
I’ll let you know how I like new Demaio book

163. Baby — May 5, 2010 @ 2:16 pm

Thank you, thank you, thank you guys for pitching in and helping out with sending those practice tests!!! :) Hats off to those of you that did that, Simone, Helen, Jack … I hope I did not miss someone!!!

On the ? what to study… here is what and how I studied.

1. I went through all the tests from the DeMaio book. I answered the ? the best I could. Then, I looked at the answers and compared. At that point I had between 25&28% wrong. I read up more on every wrong answered ?. Then I took the tests again, this time I was less than 10% wrong. So I decided to read the MIC Reg Review…

2. Read the MIC, answered the ?’s there, then looked up the correct answers and read the study guides I have to understand what I was missing. Did that 2 times for the whole MIC and ended up with 1% wrong answers, after the 2nd read. After the 1st I was about 5%. That is when I knew that the MIC was not enough…

3. I read the Sectional Anatomy book, I had mentioned above, twice, and took notes… Yes, I took notes while I was reading, with the most important things. I had a whole notebook full of notes just from that one book, including diagrams for the venous and arterial flow. I answered all the ?, more than once. Ended up having about 1% wrong at the end.

4. Then I used a practice notebook I have that accompanies the Sectional Anatomy book, here though I used help. I had someone quiz me while I was reading out the names of the different structures. All 9 chapters, all the figures, it took me quite some time.

5. Studied the ? I am talking about, and I mean studied those, not just read them and answered them. I had to go to the net and find some explanations for the answers why and how.

6. Finally, I went through all my notebook notes again, and the Demaio book one more time, but this time I had less than 5% wrong answers. I knew that if I have less than 5% wrong, I was ok. Yes, I was scared, but I knew I will pass it…

And all of this took me 4 months to do. Almost every other evening after work, and every other weekend. For the last month I studied every weekend, at least 6-7 hrs a day. I had someone quiz me all the time on the Demaio and other practice test I had, not just reading and writing the answers.

So if you really want to pass, you must study hard. Yes, you may get lucky, but luck is not to be counted on only. It is up to each and everyone what and how much to study. My efforts paid off. And I am FT worker with family and no x-ray background, but rather nuc med. I know it is not easy, I’ve done it… But you have to study hard, and there is no such a thing as an “unnecessary” studying; or at least I feel that way!

Once again, thank you guys for pitching in!!! Good luck to everyone! ;)

164. Baby — May 5, 2010 @ 2:22 pm

Oh BTW, the my final score is the same as the scaled score. I did the best in pt. care, then physics, and then procedures.

165. K — May 5, 2010 @ 5:46 pm

So, I have seen some contradictions in my study materials. One is how to determine voxel size. One multiplies side X side X width. The other multiplies just one side by width. Anyone know which way it will be on the boards?? Frustrating!

166. ruta — May 5, 2010 @ 9:13 pm

Hi Baby, thanks for advice. I feel the same way, that luck is not enough on the exam. However, I still think that Bushong is way too deep into the physics :)

167. nichole — May 6, 2010 @ 12:16 am

Hey baby, sorry I don’t get on here enough to forward or type anything. I sent Calvin a forward of the ?’s hoping that maybe he can somehow post them to this site. I will try to get on this site more often, it seems to be really helpful.

168. Baby — May 6, 2010 @ 1:45 am

K, I had the same ? regarding the voxel size. The correct answer should be pixel width x pixel height x slice thickness. Why, cause the result is in mm3 (mm cubed). Anything else that is in the book is quite wrong and those that have published them this way, I think should correct this. If the measurement is cubed, then 3 dimensions should be used. Simple math…

What would be on the exam? I do not know, but I would go with what is correct according to simple math.

Those books that have been published and not reviewed by a math reviewer to correct for this, should print an appendix with the correction. Who would contact them to tell them that? I feel that when a book a published it should guarantee highest standards… But that is not the case always as we see… I think that for many materials published there are no set standards to be reviewed by a board certified reviewers.

169. Baby — May 6, 2010 @ 1:48 am

Ruta, I agree partially with you, but again, it all depends whether something is an overkill to study…

170. Simone — May 6, 2010 @ 12:10 pm

Hey K,

Its the PIXEL (squared) times section width.

171. Kim Bailey-Jones — May 6, 2010 @ 7:24 pm

Hello Everyone! It seems like this page has become more of a discussion than merely comments at this point. After recieving emails from some of you I decided it was time to officially create a forum here at CT Guru so that we can discuss things in a more orderly fassion. You can find the link to the new CT Guru Forum in the upper left column of this page or just type in ctguru.org/forum. you will be required to obtain a username and password to post and make comments but it only takes a few minutes to sign up. Let me know if you have any suggestions for the new forum.

174. baby — May 7, 2010 @ 7:48 am

Calvin, I am so excited you added the forum. Love the topic headings… Would you be able to add one more? Re: openings/jobs?

This will lift up your web site. As a mof I think it is the 1st one for technologists only that, and I hope it gets a lot participations ()

175. baby — May 7, 2010 @ 7:59 am

Calvin, I was able to create a new poll, but was unable to type in the field for the topic. Is there anything special about that I am not seeing…?

176. baby — May 7, 2010 @ 8:08 am

One more suggestions Calvin, if you could add a link on the forum page, that takes you back to this page? Sorry if I am asking too much :)

177. baby — May 7, 2010 @ 8:18 am

Ok, one more, to be able to create a main new topic?

178. baby — May 7, 2010 @ 8:29 am

Found the answer to 175, never mind… sorry…

179. Baby — May 7, 2010 @ 1:15 pm

Andrea & Kim, check your e-mails.

Guys, I will be visiting only the forum from now on, so if you would like to get a copy of those practice tests, please look there and you will find a topic I’ve created, register and post your e-mail. And please, please do not forget to come back to this web site and do the same… forward those to other folks that ask for them. After you are nice enough to forward to other folks in need, please post a message so the rest of us could see and we do not repeat sending them.

Just want everyone to know that my preliminary score for my ct registry this past Thursday was a 90!!!! It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but so worth all the studying time and effort. Your site gave good study material. Thanks. P.S. I’m fifty and tentatively passed it on my first try!!!! If I can do it…anyone can with some effort!!!
